Found a hummingbird nest! I loved how the nest has all the lichen around it.

I thought I found some whacky bug until I looked up close. It was a harvestmen molting! It was absolutely wild. I tried so many different focus stacks but she was moving all of her limbs trying to squeeze out of her old exo.

An absolutely tiny lad. She literally looked like a little hair moving around on this stump. I really wanted to focus stack for a better view of the water drops but she was swinging around!

Coenosia tigrina - Hunter Fly
I couldn't have told you that we have flies that hunt other flies in Washington until I saw multiple of them feasting in the garden.

Wikipedia says these species are in Eurasia and North Africa, but this photo couldn't look more identical to every other photo I can find of Coenosia tigrina and I am definitely in North America.

Rhagonya fulva - Red Soldier Beetles doing the thing. Misleadingly called "bloodsucker beetle's" due to their red/orange color.

Rhagonya fulva - Red Soldier Beetles doing the thing. Misleadingly called "bloodsucker beetle's" due to their red/orange color.

The more fun name for them is the "Hogweed Bonking beetle". As they are commonly on Hogweed and are often found bonking as seen here.

If you spot them in the garden, I would recommend keeping them as they devour aphids and supplement their diet with pollen. Their larvae are purely carnivorous soil dwellers that feed on springtails and snails.

I really couldn't find any sort of ID for this bug. The closest I could think of was a fruit fly. Any ID would be appreciated.

There were about 100 'fly things' on this stalk and all of them had this same "liquid bubble" near the top end of their abdomen.

Nabidae - Damsel Bug!

I have never seen these bugs before in the PNW. As you can see by their long proboscis they are predators that eat aphids, mites, and moth larvae so if you see them in your garden leave them!

You might notice that their forearms look a bit bulky because apparently they will sometimes hold their prey sort of like mantids while eating them.

I believe I have narrowed this specimen down to belonging to the genera Sitticina in the family Salticidae.

Just in a period of about 10 minutes this spider caught two different prey. They are always so fun to watch

While taking photos of this "fly" I just called it an alien. I read up and found it's called a Snakefly (Order Raphidioptera).

Looking at it's mouth you can tell this is a carnivore and I learned that they eat lots of aphids and mites. I wish I could have seen it catch one.

Another interesting feature of this fly is its long "tail". The snakefly apparently uses this "ovipositor" to lay her eggs under bark which confirms this specimen is a she. (See second photo just to see the ovipositor)

If you are looking to find one in North America search during the day in a coniferous area west of the Rocky mountains from Canada down to Mexico.

While taking photos of this "fly" I just called it an alien. I read up and found it's called a Snakefly (Order Raphidioptera).

Unknown species but my guesses are
Phidippus comatus or Phidippus otiosus or Habronattus signatus

I mainly know that this guy has cute little eyelashes and I found her in a tree so it sounds a lot like a Phidippus, but I couldn't find a Phidippus that looked like this one.

I watched her catch a fly at insane speeds and she became so shy and would not sit still once she had prey.

Family Lycosidae - Wolf spider.

The eye arrangement lets you know that these spiders are big on hunting! I watched them for about an hour hoping to see them catch anything but I had no luck.

I would like to note that their bites are only about as painful as a bee sting and they are way less likely to attack compared to any bee.

Sulphur Butterfly - There are a couple of different subspecies of Sulphur butterflies and I think it's the petite sulphur.

Their favorite foods are legumes, peas, clovers and alfalfa. This area happened to have three of those and this specimen was on a pea plant.

I mistook it as a moth due to its bland gray shades but, when I got up close I realized how much color there was in its wings.
